CPD Units: 1
The National Crime Agency’s National Strategic Assessment 2017 states that previous figures of £36 billion to £90 billion for all money laundering impacting on the UK are a significant underestimation. Money launderers employ a range of techniques to help legitimise the proceeds of crime, and professionals such as accountants and solicitors are at risk of being targeted for their services. To tackle this threat, the Home Office, in partnership with the National Crime Agency, has been working with the accountancy and legal professional bodies to raise awareness of the warning signs of money laundering, and help professionals protect themselves and their firms through the Flag It Up campaign.
In addition to Flag It Up material Tim Pinkney will talk you through an AML spring clean giving tips on reviewing policies and procedures and compiling your risk assessment forms. AIA work closely with and continue to support the Flag It Up campaign, and as such webinar presenter Tim Pinkney will use some materials from the Flag It Up campaign. These materials have been developed in conjunction with the National Crime Agency and with support from partners in the regulatory sector, including the AIA.
He will also review the latest requirements from OPBAS in firms and explain AIA’s approach to criminality checks.
Tim is AIA's Head of Compliance and Regulation, and his main responsibilities are to oversee member compliance with legal, professional and industry standards; to maintain the quality and status of AIA membership and manage the AIA's Quality Assurance programme.
In addition he is the AIA representative at the Anti-money Laundering Supervisors’ Forum and the AIA point of contact with National Crime Agency.
