AIA is a member of The CityUK; an independent organisation which champions the international competitiveness of the UK financial services industry. Created in 2010, The CityUK supports the whole of the financial services sector, promoting UK financial services at home and overseas and playing an active role in the regulatory and trade policy debate.
The CityUK has a global export focus with a commitment to help UK based firms grow their business in other parts of the world. As of January 2011, the financial services industry accounted for 10 per cent of UK GDP and 11 per cent of UK tax receipts. The sector currently employs 1 million people, more than 66% of whom work outside London, and underpins the businesses that drive jobs and growth. Added together with the further 900,000 employed in professional services, it is easy to see the importance of a sector that employs one in every ten of the working population.
The CityUK provides constructive advice and the practitioner voice on trade policy and all aspects of taxation, regulation, and other legislative matters that affect the competitiveness of the sector. They conduct extensive research and run a national and international events programme to inform the debate. Their senior team regularly engages with regulators and policymakers at home and overseas, ensuring the sector's views are represented at the highest levels. The CityUK are tasked with creating a new vision for the financial services sector.
