Exams

Gaining a qualification with the AIA is achieved through exam, or a combination of exam and work experience. For more information on the qualifications that we offer, please see the Qualifications section.

The AIA's qualifications are predominantly examined by written exam in English.

All of AIA’s qualifications are based around sixteen exam topics, and progressing through them is both challenging and rewarding. The AIA exam structure is designed to allow you to build on your knowledge, and progress from level to level. The exams are separated into three levels, Foundation, Professional 1 and Professional 2.

Exemptions are offered to students who obtain relevant qualifications both before and during their study for the AIA Professional Accountancy Qualification and the Recognised Professional Qualification. For more information on what exemptions you may be eligible for, please see the Exemptions Database.

You are given ten years to complete the AIA Professional Accountancy Qualification; however it can be completed within two to three years depending on what exemptions are awarded to you, and other factors. This means that you can study at your own pace and ensure that you maintain your work/life balance.

As an international organisation, the AIA also offers you the option of sitting the papers based on international standards, or in some countries we offer local variant papers.

Membership Services is available to help you with any queries you may have regarding the AIA exams, qualifications or study materials.
