On the 20 September 2018 the Association of International Accountants (AIA), the global body for professional accountants were pleased to exhibit at the North East England Chamber of Commerce (NEECC) Annual General Meeting and Showcase event. The event which took place at Wynyard Hall in Tees Valley focused strongly on the impending Brexit and the concerns facing the North East business community. Survey results have shown that over 50% of the region’s business community expect Brexit to have a negative impact on their business.

Commenting on the current Brexit situation, John McCabe, Managing Director of Fusion PR Creative, who was re-elected as Chamber President at the event, said: “The debate around Brexit continues to create more heat than light, and the only thing uniting leavers and remainers is their opposition to the options which are on the table.

“Through all the uncertainty, what is clear is that ‘No Deal’ is a totally unacceptable outcome for North East England’s businesses.”

Delegates also heard from NEECC Chief Executive James Ramsbotham and guest speaker, Nagma Ebanks-Beni, Commercial Director at Seaham-based Prima Cheese Ltd, runners-up in the Exporter of the Year category at the British Chambers of Commerce national awards.

Commenting on the event, Sharon Gorman, Director of Development at AIA, said: “With over 400 delegates in attendance the NEECC AGM and Showcase provided a fantastic platform for AIA to promote its service offering to potential new members in the local North East region.

“With Brexit now only six months away it was no surprise that it was the hot topic for debate and discussion. As a North East based association it is reassuring that we have the NEECC proactively lobbying for Government to heed the warnings which are coming from businesses both locally and nationally in order to ensure we have the clarity we need to see continued economic success in the future.”
