The Association of International Accountants (AIA) held its latest Council meeting on 11 April 2025 to review strategic progress and reaffirm its commitment to global professional education and regulatory oversight.

AIA is governed by a Council of members, responsible for ensuring we deliver the objectives outlined in our Constitution. The Council also decides on AIA’s strategic objectives, monitors our performance in relation to them and oversees our annual budget.

The Council consists of members who are elected at the Annual General Meeting and draws on a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Encompassing key jurisdictions around the world, the Council represents all our members and reflects AIA's global nature.

The Council is responsible for the overall governance of AIA and its affairs and is supported and advised in their work by a number of committees.

A key highlight of the regular meeting was the continued expansion of AIA’s international education network. The Council welcomed the approval of new study providers, including ELF College in the United Kingdom and Eduskills Global Venture Ltd in Bangladesh, both of which are preparing to launch AIA programmes in 2025. The Council also discussed details of progress with additional institutions in India, Cyprus and Malaysia as AIA seeks to further enhance accessibility to its qualifications worldwide.

AIA remains committed to acting in the public interest and strengthening confidence in the accountancy profession through transparent, accountable governance, and the delivery of world-class qualifications.

AIA President Shahram Moallemi said: “The Council plays a crucial role in governance, ensuring that the AIA operates effectively for its members and serves the wider public interest. As its President, I am dedicated to ensuring the Association thrives, meets its regulatory obligations, and advances our mission of providing world class qualifications and training.”

AIA Chief Executive Philip Turnbull said: “We are pleased to see the growth of our education partnerships, which play a vital role in delivering AIA qualifications to a global audience. These relationships support our commitment to high-quality, accessible professional education and are central to our long-term strategy.”
