Inclusive Leadership in the Workplace

This webinar distinguishes 'inclusion' from 'diversity', delving into the benefits of embracing these differences and how this can enhance workplace values. You will also discover barriers to inclusion and how developing leadership skills can help address these issues.

Content

The talk explores the importance of inclusive leadership in organisations and teams within workplaces.

The talk highlights, and is based around, a model developed by The Inclusion Imperative to distil disparate guidance into a practical guide in this area.

It will explore, and produce learning outcomes related to, the following:

  • what we mean we refer to “inclusion”, as distinct from merely “diversity” – and the detrimental effects of seeking the latter without the former
  • the potential value of difference
  • how the inclusion of difference – of experience, perspectives, views – translates into value added in the workplace
  • the systemic lack of inclusion which typically exists or develops in organisations
  • the distinction between management and leadership
  • how to develop inclusive leadership skills, and how these combine with other leadership styles
  • leadership behaviours which are necessary in order to role model inclusion:
    • embodying EQ and CQ
    • valuing, leveraging and promoting difference
    • showing integrity and building trust
    • the principles and practicalities of applying the 9 Cs of inclusive behaviours as a workplace leader
    • the practical behaviours associated with horizontal inclusion in the form of allyship, based around The Inclusion Imperative’s APPLIED model.

Speaker

Geffrye Parsons

Through his DE&I consultancy, The Inclusion Imperative, Geffrye helps organisations to build leadership capabilities and harness the power of inclusion as a key strategy for wellbeing, organisational learning and superior business outcomes.

Widely regarded as a thought leader and driver of positive change for workplace inclusion, Geff promotes a holistic, intersectional approach. He challenges received wisdom and practices to facilitate culture shift and business learning.

In doing so, Geff does not stop at theory; he brings the benefit of a practical perspective to his work. This is the product of the 35 years he spent in successful front office executive roles based in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Netherlands, working for leading international financial and professional services organisations, prior to launching TII in early 2022

Geff was already a frequent speaker at external inclusion-themed events, panels etc while at his former employer, Macquarie Group. This has accelerated significantly since Geff set up TII, during which time he has:

  • delivered keynote speeches for multiple clients
  • spoken at multiple conferences globally
  • co-hosted (with ExecuPride) a ‘Pride Talks’ podcast series

As long-standing chair of its LGBTQ+ employee resource group, Geff took his former employer, Macquarie, to #1 in the annual Stonewall rankings in the UK, and to the inaugural ‘Business Equality Award’ at the PinkNews Awards, in recognition of its exemplary LGBTQ+ inclusion efforts under his stewardship.
