Summary

The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down economic activities, if not followed by a severe economic recession. This is worsened by the inflationary pressure, increases in interest rates, energy and food crisis, disruptions to supply chains, etc. around the globe. Consequently, this presents reporting entities with greater challenges ahead in preparing their financial statements and for auditors in rendering assurance services. This course provides a practical review of the MPERS topics (applicable to the private entities in Malaysia) needed for preparation of financial statements during volatile business environment. 

This course aims to help participants to: 

  • Identify the likely affected accounting items during volatile business environment 
  • Assess the reporting principles in the relevant MPERS for the relevant accounting items 
  • Apply the relevant MPERS principles to account for the impacts

Speakers

Dr Lau Chee Kwong

Dr Lau is Associate Professor of Accounting with the Nottingham University Business School, Malaysia. He has more than 25 years of practical experience in financial accounting and corporate reporting, corporate finance, banking management, financial management, investments, academic administration, lecturing, corporate training and consultation work.

 

He conducts training, lectures, and seminars for inhouse corporate clients as well as public courses in IFRS/MFRS/MPERS/MPSAS, sustainability reporting, fraudulent financial reporting and ethical consideration, etc. Dr Lau lectures the bachelor’s degree programmes, MBA, MSc Professional Accountancy, Master of Finance, and CFA; and supervises master's and PhD students in their research projects. His research papers have been published in journals and presented in national as well as international conferences. He served as a member of the Issues Committee of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) from 2008 to 2013.
