Charity Aims to Pair Volunteer Finance Professionals with Non-Profits

Just 10% of UK finance professionals currently volunteer their skills to non-profits each year, according to the charity Charterpath, which it describes as “a significant missed opportunity”.

Charterpath said it “aims to change all this and inspire more accountants to volunteer their time and skills, helping them connect with non-profit organisations”. Its goal is to see 50% of accountants giving two days a year to skills-based volunteering.

However, its research has shown that time constraints and a lack of awareness are seen as the primary barriers for volunteering. In fact, 32% of finance professionals revealed they did not volunteer last year because it had never occurred to them.

Currently, 656 accountants have signed the Charterpath volunteer pledge, providing over 18,000 hours of financial skills commitment. It estimates that the value of the time volunteered and recruitment fees saved by non-profits adds up to £600,000.

In its mission statement Charterpath says it “connects non-profits with diverse and expert volunteers with financial skills, and engage with the wider sector so volunteering is part of every finance professional's career”.

Its services are provided free of charge to both finance professionals and non-profits.
