Session 1

Navigating the Evolving AML Landscape: Practical Compliance for Irish Accountants
David Potts, Director of Policy & Regulation and MLRO, AIA

This session will provide you with a clear, practical, and up‑to‑date overview of the rapidly evolving Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) landscape across Ireland. With major structural reforms now underway, David Potts (AIA) will help you understand what has changed, what is coming next, and how professional firms should update their AML policies, procedures, and internal controls to remain compliant.

Key developments include the new EU Anti‑Money Laundering Authority (AMLA), which became operational in July 2025, tasked with harmonised supervision and the rollout of new technical standards, guidelines, and data requirements. David will focus on what these changes mean in practical policy and procedural terms. This includes updates to firm‑wide risk assessments, policies & procedures, customer relationships, and forthcoming AMLA regulatory technical standards expected in 2026.

Attendees will leave the session with:

  • A clear understanding of the most significant AML regulatory changes across Ireland.
  • Practical guidance on updating AML policies, procedures, and firm‑wide risk assessments.
  • Insight into supervisory expectations for 2026 and how to prepare for upcoming compliance requirements.
  • Actionable steps for implementing proportionate, effective, and defensible AML controls within professional practice.

11:00 - 12:00

Session 2

Practical AML Compliance in a Digital World
Richard Simms, Managing Director, AMLCC

As firms invest more in digital tools and updated ways of working, there is growing pressure to keep AML compliance clear, consistent and well documented. In this session, Richard Simms (AMLCC) will focus on how accountancy practices can use technology and structured risk management to strengthen their AML approach and build trust with clients, regulators and staff.

Richard will connect the wider regulatory changes covered earlier in the programme with what firms need to do in practice. Drawing on AMLCC’s long history of supporting AIA members, he will outline how firms can develop practical Policies, Controls and Procedures, complete effective risk assessments and maintain strong records that stand up to scrutiny.

The session will explore:

  • How digital tools can make AML tasks easier without adding extra burden.
  • What good Policies, Controls and Procedures look like and how to keep them relevant.
  • How to create business‑wide and client risk assessments that genuinely support decision making.
  • Simple ways to build AML processes into everyday workflows.
  • How the AMLCC Ireland platform can support training, documentation, CDD and ongoing monitoring.

Delegates will gain:

  • A clear understanding of how technology can support good AML practice.
  • Practical ideas for keeping processes proportionate while meeting regulatory expectations.
  • Tips for improving consistency and staff engagement.
